Retirement of J# language and Java Language Conversion Assistant from future versions of Visual Studio

Since customers have told us that the existing J# feature set largely meets their needs and usage of J# is declining, Microsoft is retiring the Visual J# product and Java Language Conversion Assistant tool to better allocate resources for other customer requirements. The J# language and JLCA tool will not be available in future versions of Visual Studio. To preserve existing customer investments in J#, Microsoft will continue to support the J# and JLCA technology that shipped with Visual Studio 2005 through to 2015 as per our product life-cycle strategy. 재미있는 표현입니다. 제품을 '은퇴'시킨다라...

소비자의 의사와는 무관한 단종 사례들로 인해 소비자들로부터 엄청난 포화를 여러 차례 받아댄 결과, 이제 단어 선택에 조심을 하는가봅니다. 마르코 칸투도 이런 재미있는(?) 단어 선택을 슬슬 비꼬는군요.

위 링크의 마르코씨의 의견대로, J#을 단종시키는 것은 통신업체나 금융회사같은 대기업들을 자바에서 닷넷으로 몰아가려던 J#의 목적이 달성되지 못했다는 반증이 되는 거죠.

또 한가지, 마르코씨가 중요한 지적을 했는데... 델파이의 투게더 기능 지원이 이 J#에 의존하고 있습니다. 원래 투게더가 자바 기반이었으니 예전의 볼랜드에서 손쉬운 포팅을 위해 J#을 썼던 거죠. (이게 BDS2006을 설치하기 위해 J#을 먼저 깔도록 강요했던 이유였나봅니다)

근데 이제 J#이 단종되니, 코드기어도 당장은 J# 기반 투게더 기능을 쓰긴 하겠지만, 장기적으로는 다른 언어로 재개발해야 하지 않겠습니까. 그럼 C# 아니면 Win32 두가지 중에서 선택하지 않겠습니까? 전, C# 대신 Win32 네이티브로 개발되길 바래봅니다. ^^
